October is Black History Month in the UK, an event that has been celebrated nationwide for more than 30 years. The month was originally founded to recognise the contributions that people of African and Caribbean backgrounds have made to the UK over many generations.
Now, Black History Month has expanded to include the history of not just African and Caribbean people but black people in general. Simone read the children a story called ‘Mixed’ which celebrated our world full of colours and showed how happy we can be when we are all mixed. She gave the children some inspirational individuals to research as part of their humanities topics. Classes produced posters which have been displayed around the school so that others can learn more about them. Many of the children have gone on the do their own research about other individuals and be inspired by their achievements.
