Early Years
Our Early Years class is known as Goslings and includes pupils from Reception and Year 1.
All about our Goslings Class
Many of our Year 1 pupils benefit from the opportunity to continue to follow the Early Years curriculum before moving on to Key Stage 1.
Curriculum
In Goslings, we provide a well-balanced and appropriately resourced Early Years curriculum making full use of both the inside and outside environments.
We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Framework which is differentiated to meet our pupil’s needs.
Each term our learning follows a topic, which is developed through the interests of our pupils in order to ensure engagement in learning.
Pupil’s learning and progress is recorded in their Learning Journeys as well as in maths and literacy books.
Daily routine
The Goslings class timetable follows a similar structure every day.
We place a strong emphasis on play as a foundation for learning, giving pupils the opportunity to use first hand experiences. Through planned and purposeful play, pupils learn to communicate and to share, We encourage pupils to be independent and they are expected to take responsibility and care for their own belongings as well as the environment.
We aim to provide stimulating environments, both indoors and out, for learning through play and to cover the different areas of the EYFS curriculum. All pupils have the opportunity to play both inside and outside during the school day.
Pupils have the opportunity to work individually, in small groups and in whole class groups through both adult-led and pupil-initiated activities. Time spent in the classroom is structured and the time spent on adult led activities is gradually built up over the year to help prepare children for the next phase in their learning.
Working together
We work closely with parents who are invited in throughout the year, as well as Speech and Language Therapists and other professionals.
Working together in this way, we support our pupils to make the best start possible to their primary education.
