As part of the Honeybee Programme by School Food Matters, pupils from Year 6 were invited to visit the Apiary at Holland Park Ecology Centre. As well as seeing bee hives up close they also got to wear bee-keeping suits and learn about the habitats that bees need in order to survive. They had a lovely day out and the only feedback was they wished the day could have been longer. Following on from this a beekeeper visited Alexandra School to show the whole school his bees which were in a special observation hive. All pupils were fascinated by the bees, we learnt about honeybees and their importance in the food production system. We also got to taste some honey – which proved very popular.
