The children absolutely loved their day at the Chiltern Open Air Museum. We began with the Stone Age workshop, where the children met a Stone Age man and took part in four hands‑on activities: making fire with flint, creating paint using charcoal and “fat,” going on a hunting adventure, and building shelters. After lunch, we travelled forward in time to the Iron Age and met Nick Nack, an Iron Age man who lives in a roundhouse. The children explored the differences between the two historical periods and enjoyed another four activities: grinding flour, cooking flatbreads, making clay pots, and churning butter.
