Welcome to the Spring 2008 edition of Newsline

Active at Alexandra

I have been really pleased to see the wide range of healthy physical activities in which the children have been involved. Ranging from jazz and dance to hockey and gym we have seen all kinds of clubs and teams spring up.  Hockey has been a favourite lunchtime game in the playground. First we learned with plastic sticks and then moved on to proper wooden ones before taking part in two Harrow festivals which included lots of other schools.  Congratulations to the teams for the way they played and especially to the Year 6 and 7 team which beat Priestmead Middle and drew with Grimsdyke. Well done to two of our children who both scored goals.

Meanwhile,  regular swimming lessons at  Hatch End and at Aspire have led to lots of children making super progress and receiving certificates.  Gym and Yoga occur within the PE curriculum, but we have also had clubs for dance and for gym which have kept children busy during lunchtimes and Street Jazz which has been popular on Thursday after school.  Thanks to Leanne, Camille, Clare and all the staff who have been involved in organising  healthy activities and encouraging the children to take part.

Learning in style

Just as regularly as the first daffodils come up and Easter eggs appear in the shops, Book week and then Science and Engineering  week appear on our school calendar. These are amongst my  favourite times at school. Itís great to see children involved in challenging science activities and this year there were mazes, marble runs, kites and aeroplanes.

Of course the annual fancy dress day at the end of Book week, when all the staff and children dress up as story characters is just amazing. Thanks to Suzy and Nick for  their inspirational organisation and well done all who took part.
