Alexandra School’s Christmas Charity
This year, we are raising money for the Watford New Hope
The work of Watford New Hope Trust (WNHT) began in 1989,
providing shelter, food, support and hope for homeless and
disadvantaged people from Watford and the surrounding area.
Now, the WNHT house 56 vulnerable men and women every night
and help over 600 people every year by providing accommodation
and opportunities to rebuild damaged lives. Christmas can
be the toughest time of all when you’re homeless, alone and
on the streets.
So please contribute at least at least £2 for each
Christmas concert ticket and buy the new school mug.
year we sell a new school mug. This year the design
was inspired by the children’s enjoyment of the Yurt
and the winning graphic was by Adam Mulcaire. The Mugs
are £4.50 each. All proceeds to our Christmas
generous in your contribution to the appeal and buy
one or more school mugs—they will make lovely Christmas
on sale at the Christmas Show, which will take place
at 1.30 on Wednesday 19th December and again at 6.00
on the same day.
Parent and Family News
It has been great to see so many parents visiting school
this term, for a wide range of events. The children have given
us some wonderful class assemblies (which you can still catch
on Fronter). We’ve held four Gate Gossip afternoons this term,
meeting for tea, biscuits and a chat about topics like home
school communication, transition to high school, developing
children’s communication skills and healthy eating.
Last week, Jan and Gemma led a family library trip to Rayners
Lane Library and during this second half of term, Ivan and
Suzy have been running a Family Learning group on turn-taking.
We are currently planning our parent and family events for
next term, so if you have any ideas or requests, do let Jan
or Perdy know.
We have on request for you! As we did last year, we would
like to serve some mince pies and mulled wine (or fruit juice)
before the Christmas Show on Wednesday 19th December. The
school will provide the drinks, but we would like your help
with the mince pies. If you have time, it would be great if
you and your child could make some mince pies, then send them
in to school on Monday 17th (in a box with your child’s name
on). Baking is a lovely activity to do together and the recipe
suggests tasks your child can do. We will warm the mince pies
up, sprinkle them with icing sugar and serve them (free of
charge of course) before the afternoon and evening performances!

I hope that you
have all got into the habit of checking Fronter regularly
this term, particularly as the class teams have been posting
weekly news on Fronter. If you’ve been away from Fronter for
a bit, do check it out. We have recently opened several new

Dennis announces his retirement!
As my 60th birthday approaches on December 7th, I have decided to step down as Headteacher of Alexandra.
I will continue in post until the end of April, and then hand over to Perdy, who will be Acting Head
until the question of Academy conversion is resolved. It will be impossible,
simply to walk away from this school and I hope there will be opportunities
for me to continue to make a contribution in some form after my retirement.
It has been a privilege to work with such wonderful staff, and a
pleasure knowing the Alexandra children and their families. Thank You.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year
Don’t forget - Children are back at school on Monday, January
